Venafro:Museo Archeologico
Art and history in Molise are entangled with places: this region,
affected by the phenomenon of the emigration in the past century,
has indeed hosted several populations and civilizations, to the
extent that still today exist Croatian communities and ethnic groups
such as “arbreshes”, with their own language, art and
culture. The main urban structure is that of the medieval village:
all the towns in Molise preserve samples of towers, castles and
fortifications. The holy art is characterised by examples of Romanic
and baroque style . The baroque art developed in Molise thanks to
the feudal lords who wanted to state the connection between political
and religious power. Great impulse to such art was given by the
Bishops Battiloro, Pedicini, Caracci, Pittirri and Tria. The buildings,
realised according to the rules of the Counter Reformation stated
by the Trento Council in XVI century, were influenced by the Neapolitan
School and reprised by local artists such as Gamba, Di Zinno, Brunetti,
Fenico, Palumbo, Gioia.
