Introduction Molise Geographical notes

Molise is the youngest, smallest and less crowded region with an ordinary statute. The pureness of this land alone deserves a visit.

Paesaggio del Matese

Pure because barely known and little visited, for the close link with agriculture and sheep-breeding, for the morphology if its places. The region, extending from the height of Mount Miletto to the Adriatic Coast, represents a unique heritage for its history, culture and landscape.

Massiccio del Matese

Molise offers an amazing variety of opportunities despite the dimension of its territory: it ranges from the beaches of Termoli to the ski resort of Campitello Matese, from the Natural Oasis in Guardiaregia to the medieval fortifications and villages, from the archaeological finds dating back to Samnite and Roman period straight to the Baroque.

Cascata nel Matese

A concentrate of nature, beauty and tradition that has preserved the charme and the appeal of a land to discover. In spite of the development of the industrial activities, Molise is still linked to an agricultural economy. Thanks to this tradition, the handicraft is still predominant among the region’s activities.

Ferrazzano

The territory of Molise, bounded by Abruzzo at North, by Lazio at North-West, by Campania and Puglia at South, became a Region in 1963, after being attached to Terra del Lavoro (province of Caserta), afterward to Abruzzo and, lately to Capitanata (in present – day Puglia). Tha Matese massif, with the two thousand meters - high Mount Miletto, is the most important chain, followed by the Mainarde chain. The territory is crossed by five rivers (Biferno, Trigno, Fortore, Volturno and Sangro ). The three artificial basins used for the production of electric energy, have formed three lakes (Castel San Vincenzo, Guardalfiera, Occhito).
