Oriented Natural Reservation (RNO) of “Pesche”
The reservation is adjacent to Isernia and it is at 50km
far from Campobasso. It is crossed by paths that favour the observation
of its characteristics to the visitors.
Placed in the town district of Pesche (IS), it consists of 552 hectares
.
The reservation has a peculiar forestry structure; the soil is composed
of trees such as species of pines.
The soil of the reservation can be considered a synthesis of the
Planet Earth, as in a few square metres coexist almost 60 plant
species.
Fauna: Thrushes, blackbirds, ringdoves,
jays, jackdaws, crows, quails, buzzards, hawks, owls, barn owls.
Then hares, foxes, wild boars, squirrels , weasels, badgers, hedgehogs
Among the amphibians, the triton. Among the reptiles, water snakes
and vipers.
Visits: Guided visits allowed on request
to the Ufficio Amministrazione in Isernia or Forester Station in
Montedimezzo, or even to the Town Hall.
Benches along the paths and organised areas for stops and camping
at “Fonte Maturi”, San Bernardino and San Marco.
San Martino and Cantalupo Woods
Placed in Southern Molise in San Pietro Avellana (IS) district,
it is 113 km away from Campobasso, 58 km from Isernia, 6 km from
Castel Di Sangro (AQ) and equally distant (about 15 km) from the
ski resorts of Roccaraso (AQ) and Capracotta (IS).
The total area of 215 hectares is occupied by woods for 195 hectares,
fields for 15 hectares, and for 5 hectares by rural structures and
uncultivated areas.
The woods are dominated by the following species: Turkey oaks, beeches,
ash trees, maples. Along the river Sangro: willows, poplars, hazels,
brooms, junipers, hawthorns.
The woods’fruits: mushrooms, strawberries,
blackberries, raspberries, asparaguses, walnuts, acorns, juniper
baccae. Quite spread the black truffle, more rare the white one.
Monte Caruso – Monte Gallo woods
Placed at the feet of the Matese massif in High Molise in the district
of Monteroduni (IS), the woods have an extension of 410 hectares;
the natural pastures occupy about 550 hectares on middle-high altitudes,
whereas the fields extend for 85 hectares; the remaining 21 hectares
are occupied by rural structures and uncultivated areas.
Flora: Presence of pines, cypresses, silver
firs.
Woods’ fruits and products: wood,
chestnuts, mushrooms, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, asparaguses,
walnuts, acorns. The calcareous stone called “Verdello”
is widely used for floors, coatings, stone works.
At “Casone del Principe” are still present remains of
cyclopean walls witnessing Pentro – Samnites civilizations.
